China's Perspectives on and Preferences for the International Order

Never in history have we had the scope and degree of international order that we currently enjoy—the US-led West's role in this should be acknowledged. Indeed, international order is a recent phenomenon. It is, therefore, a continuous work in progress in the early internationalist stages. As the world's civilizations and societies come to interact on a somewhat more equal standing, led by China, the international order's values, principles, norms, rules and rule-making architecture are increasingly probed through non-Western civilizational, (geo)political, and intellectual lenses. Yet, what are China's perspectives on and preferences for the international order precisely? 

Richard Ghiasy is a Lecturer at Leiden University, a Senior Fellow at the Leiden Asia Centre, and an Expert with the Dutch Government Sinologists Council (CKN). He mainly researches and advises on Asian geopolitics, particularly relating to China and India.  

In his 17-year career, he has provided policy advice to inter alia the EEAS, European Commission, Ministries across Europe and Asia, the OSCE, and OECD, and has testified at the European Parliament. Frequently, his advice has a conflict-preventive nature. Richard has also presented at several of the world's top 20 universities.
